Anyone paying attention to the news? Bell + Throttling Internet

Basically, Bell Canada has decided that certain internet traffic such as Bit Torrent should be regulated so that the quality of everyone else's internet wouldn't suffer.

Not only have they done this, but they do this to smaller independent ISPs who buy their bandwidth from Bell.
They are deciding that torrents should be slowed down on their networks, which is a serious problem. As a provider, it isn`t their place to regulate the content. They shouldn`t have a say on what is good traffic and what is bad traffic. Believe it or not, there are legitimate uses to Torrent files (Like the show "Canada's Next Prime Minister", which was produced by CBC and legally released on the internet) and they`re hindering it. The real question is that since they're doing this, what else could they eventually decide is taking up too much bandwidth? Videos on the internet like Youtube? Large Podcast files? Voice over Internet? Where will they draw the line?

My take on this is that Bell and other providers shouldn't claim to sell bandwidth if they can't provide it. I mean, there shouldn't be the bullshit "Up to 6 Megabits/s" when they can never deliver up to that speed. Perhaps they should change it to an 'at least' service of 50KBps, which is more like what it is.

When Bell sees that bandwidth quality is facing a problem, they shouldn't be focused on regulating and slowing down certain processes, they should instead focus on expanding the network, and increasing the speed and total bandwidth available. If they don't, the Internet will just get more and more congested.

Soon we'll have internet speeds at an affordable price of only our souls...I wish I have the same speed of internet as the one at work. 1GB in like ~5mins. I heard that at EAX a friend downloaded WoW with all of the patches and expansions in like ~15min. That is insane!
