Reluctance to live. Passive Suicide

As I am growing older, I find a certain new reluctance to live. By this, I mean I want to do things that I've done before. Key point: watching television shows that I've seen already (rewatching Farscape, Arrested Development, etc), playing games that I've already beaten (Earthbound, Super Metroid), or listening to music that I've already memorized (Bowie, Streetlight, ELO).

Is this because I want to relive old and perhaps more exciting times? Probably not, since they weren't that exciting to begin with. I think the main reason why we all do this sort of stuff is because the familiar is reassuring. We are reluctant to learn new things, to have new experiences. That's why I am more likely going to skip a song from somebody I've never heard of. I mean, it is kind of ridiculous that I give songs 15 seconds to 'hook' me before I move on to the next one.

This reluctance is inherent, which means that I am going to have to actively go against that instinct.

If you're going against it, I'm glad. Many people don't know that "change is the nourishment of ilfe".
